The Power of Essential Oils - Zivai

The Power of Essential Oils

Essential oils can make a positive impact on your health and well-being as long as you use them in a safe way.

Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils for therapeutic benefit, and it has been used for centuries. When inhaled, the scent molecules in essential oils travel from the olfactory nerves directly to the brain and especially impact the amygdala, the emotional center of the brain.

Essential oils can also be absorbed by the skin. A massage therapist might add a drop or two of wintergreen to oil to help relax tight muscles during a rubdown. A  skincare company may add lavender to bath salts to create a soothing soak.

What are essential oils good for?

Essential oils are natural remedies for a number of ailments. Clinical trials have looked at whether essential oils can alleviate conditions such as anxiety, depression, nausea, insomnia, low appetite, and dry mouth. Results of lab studies have shown that some essential oils can kill  bacteria. And diffusion in a public area or household with multiple members can affect people differently.

What are Zivai’s oils best used for?

There are dozens of essential oils, all with different fragrances and chemical makeups. Which essential oils are best depends on what symptoms you're looking to ease or fragrances you prefer. Our oils include:

Lavender Oil

One of the most popular and versatile essential oils. Distilled from the plant Lavandula angustifolia, the oil promotes relaxation and can be used to help with anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antidepressant, antiseptic, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, as well as antispasmodic, analgesic, detoxifying, hypotensive, and sedative effects.

Research has shown that lavender essential oil can help reduce headache pain. Lavender is known for its ability to calm the nervous system, lift the mood and even lower blood pressure. Many people find the lavender scent relaxing. It's often used to help relieve stress and anxiety and promote good sleep.

Arnica

Proven to decrease muscle tension, help decrease bruising, and help relieve pain from arthritis.

Frankincense

Known to have calming effects on the mind and body, and is also very nourishing to the skin. Frankincense has anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce joint inflammation caused by arthritis. Research shows that frankincense can prevent the release of leukotrienes, which are compounds that can cause inflammation. Terpenes, including boswellic acid, appear to be the strongest anti-inflammatory compounds in frankincense. Frankincense has reduced osteoarthritis pain and improved mobility as well.

Peppermint

Promoted for topical use to relieve problems like headaches, muscle aches, joint pain, and itching. Peppermint is also a known vasodilator that encourages blood flow and helps to open nasal pathways and open lungs.

Spearmint

Believed to be the oldest plant of the Mint family! This plant and its oils have been used traditionally for its digestive benefits. Spearmint Essential Oil is multi-purpose and it continues to be used to soothe ailments such as skin problems, headaches, nausea, vomiting, respiratory issues, and cold symptoms.

Wintergreen Leaf

Sometimes applied directly to the skin as a wash for achy joints or rheumatism, sore muscles, and lower back pain. Wintergreen oil is applied to the skin as a “counter irritant” to relieve muscle pain. Scientifically proven to be as effective on pain as aspirin.

If you live with chronic stress, practicing mind/body techniques (such as mindfulness meditation) and talking to a mental health professional may help lessen your worries and unwind your mind. There's also some research suggesting that the scent of aromatherapy essential oils may help.
